Kathy Reichs, like her fictional creation Temperance Brennan, is a board-certified forensic anthropologist for the Laboratoire de Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale for the province of Quebec, a position she also held at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, State of North Carolina. She is Vice President of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and serves on the National Police Services Advisory Council in Canada. A professor of anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Dr. Reichs received her Ph.D. at Northwestern University. She now divides her time between Charlotte and Montreal. Her debut novel, Déjà Dead, brought her fame when it became a New York Times bestseller, a #1 international bestseller, and winner of the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel. Break No Bones, her ninth Temperance Brennan novel, is forthcoming in hardcover from Scribner.

I Love reading your books. I am a stay at home mom so I don't get out much on my own. Your books are exciting .They make you feel like apart of the story, like you are actually there. I have read everyone of your books. I hope there are more to come.

Kathy Reichs. The name to me after having read all her books means a book that will be hard to put down and as a guy, you get to meet strong, intelligent, and honest main characters you can`t wait to meet again.
I am homebound most of the time as I am legally blind and have other difficulties MS has gifted me with. (My version of MS is called Devics Decease which attacks your optic nerves first, then on to more common MS type challenges.) Although reading is very difficult for me. I don`t care. A Dr Reichs` book I used to just be able to vorasiously take in page by page. Now I take and savour one page at a time. Sometimes thats all I may be able read that day because of my chronic pain.
Thank you Dr Reichs for allowing me read of another world and forget about mine for a time, it is better than any medicine they give me when I can immurse myself into one of your stories.
Thank you again,
Len Martens
And as far as the fan of the show, who cannot seem to be able read the books and ruin it for herself, I say to her,
they are as different as any person may be from another member in thier own family but they are sisters still the same, and I for enjoy each for what they are.

My sister Cleola and myself met Dr.Kathy Reichs in Montreal, dec. 2001 when she performed an autopsy on our brother Raoul, a lay missionary assasinated by the Guatemalan army in 1981....we remained freinds ever since and that is how Kathy became familiar with us Acadians.
I wish everyone would get the opportunity to know this wonderful lady whom, although she must surely be a genius...she is one of the most down to earth person I have ever met. A gracious lady who truly cares about people...and her sense of humor is precious!
For us Acadians, Kathy Reichs has ressurected our culture in a global forum that we have never attained since our deportation in 1775...and for that, we will be forever grateful...
Ou ouairras quosse demain nous amèneras!

i am an avid reader and i have been thinking about reading the books for a few years now, but for some reason the time was never right (perhaps because i felt i was too young- im not yet seventeen). then i heard there was a 'bones' series coming out and i was so excited. i have watched both seasons 1 and 2 and i also own them. i love the show and i am afraid that the books will ruin my enjoyment of it. i can tell that there must be quite a few differences between the books and the show, and i hate that. what should i do?

I recently finished this book, and am now a fan of hers. I can't wait for the next book to come out if she is still writtin.

I have read every single book by Reichs and am also a great fan of Bones. What can I say? She is simply brilliant. I am Canadian and am yet to see a Canadian writer who can weave our country's society and history into internationally acclaimed books, but Kathy Reichs has done exactly that. Her latest book about Acadia and New Brunswick is amazing - not all Canadians know as much about the history of Acadians as Kathy Reichs does!

Agree with most of the comments. I like Bones, but almost wish the names weren't the same, because the characters are so different!
I too found an error in the last Book, Iqlauit is in Nunavut, not Quebec, and is, in fact the Capital of the new Territory of Nunavut created in the year 2000. Frobisher Bay was Iqaluit's name before 2000. The Quebec Northern Region is Nunavik, and is much smaller. Nunavut is a vast Territory, which goes from Nothern Ontario to the Arctic Circle.

Love the tv show and just read Bones to Ashes. My father, Maurice Gionet was born and raised in Middle Caraquet NB (lotta Gionets there!) and about 2/3s of the names in the first few chapters came right out of my family tree. My maternal grandmother's people came from aroung Hull and my grandfather was a McIntyre from Campbelton. So your book sort of carried me back since most of my relatives are dead. I'm old...76 this past June. Keep writing about the French people Love it!

It was a real pleasure to met Kathy at one of her signing in Montreal. Of cours I showed up with all her books for her to sign but that did not happened, she was too busy. Now I am reading Bones to Ashes, which I have been enjoying so much till I got shocked. There is a mistake in the book. Milos is not on St. Laurent Street it's on Park. What happened?

I just finished Bones to Ashes. I have all of your books as well as other authors that have similar story lines as pertains to Ryan and Tempe.
In this day and age I am surprised that you have put Tempe in a situation where she is still married and that Ryan is back with the mother of his daughter. These people are educated and mature adults, but you make them out to be doults in reference to there personal lives. I know and have seen numerous men and woman that are single parents and they have done a terrific job. This daughter has a real problem, but you don't mention how she got to this stage. Her mother must be something else. What makes anyone thing that being together as a couple can cure all. Surely the tension between them can be seen by the daughter, but maybe because of her selfishness she doesn't want to see it. Grow up.
Other than this part I love all your books.

Just finished "Bones to Ashes". As usual I found it fascinating, the story line is superb and although I did not like to see my family name in the book as one of the bad guys (since I am from the Iles de la Madeleine - and my family name is quite common among Acadians, my family was deported from Frances in 1744 and I know our history throughout the years which seldom include relatives in New Brunswick, some of our relatives went to Nova Scotia and were deported to Louisiana in the bayous surrounding New Orleans).
I find your books interesting and an insight into your world of investigation through bones and a lot of other scientific modus operandi. As well, I gained more insights into the Leprosy which has always been a mystery to me.
I must admit that I was disappointed with the show on TV which is being done under your supervision. It lacks the French connotations that one only finds in Montreal, Quebec, the surroundings of the island and the particular idiosyncrasy of French police officers. That can only be portrayed in your books and not presented on tv. Keep writing I sure like to read more than watching the "boob tube" which transposed the stories and people into Americans. You have grasped the soul of Quebecois in all of your books.

Kathy Reichs, is on of my Favorite writters, her books are so interesting and packed with action, you never get bored reading. I love the character Tempe. I have read them all, the last one I read was Break no Bones. Can hardly wait for the new one . "Bones to Ashes" sounds like a good one to me. Keep them coming Kathy. thank you, for good reading.

I have read all of Kathy Reichs books and I can't wait until the next one comes out. I am so caught up in the lives of the characters. I watch the TV series Bones but I wish the TV version was more like the books. The TV Tempe just is not comparable to Tempe in the books. Keep up the good work Kathy, you have me hooked. Please don't let Ryan get away.

Does anyone know which is the first Temperance Brennan novel? I really want to read them all but I want to read them in the proper order.
Posted by: Laura | September 15, 2007 at 05:46 AM
I started in the middle of the series, after getting "caught" by a review and then went back to the first book and read them in order. The series is great but I love the details of the books.

If you ever get the chance, try to catch one of Kathy Reich's book signings. I missed the one last week in Houston, but I went the last time she was there. She does a presentation that discusses the cases that inspired her books. Very interesting and entertaining.
I just finished her latest book today (read it in one day). Couldn't put it down. It isn't often that a writer can continue to keep you interested 11 books into a series.
Additionally, I am a faithful Bones watcher (season premier set for 9/25). Already got my Tivo programmed!

Love the Kathy Reichs books, but am not crazy about the television show Bones. I wonder what Kathy thinks about the BBC America television show Waking the Dead. They are forsensic detectives that work cold cases. A lot of the scientific information they discuss on the show makes me think "I read about that in a Kathy Reichs book!"

Fascinating! How inspiring to "meet" such an author who has successfully entered into many different careers, yet still comes off as a person you could relate to. The fact that she brings her life experience into her novels compels me to delve into her macabre world of print...

Interesting woman. Her science and anthropology background probably makes for realistic storylines. I'd never heard of her books before but I'm definitely intrigued!
